Yarraman Centre Kindergarten is managed on behalf of the City of Greater Dandenong by a community based Committee of Management which is responsible for the employment of staff and the day to day running of the centre. The City of Greater Dandenong services a community of over 70 nationalities, therefore working with and understanding the different cultures is of significance to the centre.
- To provide opportunity for open communication between staff and families.
- To invite active involvement from all families.
- To appreciate and nurture the different cultures of the families attending the centre.
- To promote ongoing staff training and facilitate feedback to the centre.
- To accept students and volunteers, ensuring professional conduct.
- To encourage families to become an integral part of our centre by being members of our Management Committee.
The Committee meets once a month and is responsible for the decision making process and the management of the centre. The Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting. All positions are on a voluntary basis. The committee’s roles and responsibilities include:
- Organising and maintaining the centre (including finances)
- Encouraging parent interest and involvement
- Organising fundraising and working bee days, to assist with operation of the centre
- Complying with the relevant laws, regulations and policies.

Kindergarten Committee of Management
Yarraman Centre Kindergarten (YCK) is run by a voluntary Parent Management Committee made up of parents of children who attend the kindergarten. Yarraman Centre Kindergarten is registered Service Provider with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. We are governed by our Constitution as an Incorporated Association.
President: Coordinates the running of the Kindergarten, chairs monthly meetings and AGM, attends City of Greater Dandenong Kindergarten meetings, and oversees day to day issues. Supervises Administrator. Ideally should bring management/organisation and good communication skills to the position.
Vice President: Deputises for President, arranges emergency staff in the event of illness, coordinates annual parent survey, researches and applies for grants.
Secretary: Prepares committee lists and meeting agendas, organises meeting dates, takes minutes and disseminates information. Assists the teachers with document preparation/typing. Needs organisation and computer skills including email, internet, folder (directory) management and Word.
Treasurer: Responsible for payment of invoices, banking. Liaise with the externally appointed bookkeeper to ensure all reporting and budgeting is prepared accurately, and provide the monthly invoices, bank statements and the Fees Officers Fee Collection reports for the bookkeeper to prepare the accounts, quarterly BAS statements, and other mandatory reporting.
Fees Officer: Notifies parents of amount and date of fees to be paid, collect fees and issue receipts. This position may be shared between two people (e.g. 3yo and 4yofees).
Maintenance Officer: Liaise with staff, President and City of Greater Dandenong Council regarding maintenance issues relating to the building, plumbing etc. Responsible for general fix-it type jobs around the kindergarten relating to equipment. This position is hands-on and repairs need to be carried out in a timely manner.
Working Bee Officer: Responsible for arranging and supervising Working Bees, liaises with the Maintenance Officer and may need to back him/her up on occasion. Helps if the person is handy and has good people skills.
Communications Officer: Prepares and distributes regular newsletters for parents; ideally a creative person who has computer skills in Word and PDF conversion. May also involve promotion of Yarraman Centre Kindergarten in the community. Liaises with Web Designer regarding updates to the YCK website.
Enrolment Officer: Handles enrolment enquiries, prepares enrolment paperwork and correspondence, monitors enrolment figures and liaises with City of Greater Dandenong’s Central Enrolment Officer. Assist with open day activities.
Fundraising Officer: Fundraising Officer is responsible for organising fundraising activities such as First aid kits, Picture Plates and a Bunnings BBQ.
